Low protein diet cat?

My cat was recently diagnosed with kidney failure. I can not get to eat protein prescription diet food that my vets have recommended (KD Science Diet, Royal Canin Renal L, Royal Canin Modified). Rather starve then eat them. I've been going to a holistic pet store and says it is more important to feed high quality protein, but low quantity, no low in protein. He really Tiki Weruva likes and Canned Cat Food, which are natural and holistic. I'm trying to reduce the amount you give him half a can to mix with rice and soup for breakfast and then do the same with the 2nd half at dinner. So, I'm just giving you a can of high quality protein canned food per day, but supplementing the rest with rice and vegetables sometimes.
