Is it safe to give cats a diet of dog food and cat food mixed together?
Cats really need to eat only food for cats, because their nutrient requirements are different than dogs. Even the 50/50 split is still not balanced for a cat. The most notable nutrient would taurine, an amino acid that the lack of cats can cause vision loss and / or have heart problems. There are also different requirements for levels of protein, carbohydrates, etc. It's really just best to feed them cat food. Outside cats often supplement their diets with small mammals and birds, so you can get by with a mix, but it's not really a good idea to wait that cats are enough when it comes to nutrition. By the way, is not a great idea for dogs to live in cat food for the same reason, but their system is a bit more forgiving than one cat.
